11/5/2011· This evening I finished converting my RealBull 7x14 mini lathe to tapered roller bearings. After a few niggles I got everything sorted and fired the thing up for a test run. Measured run-out horizontally and vertically and was pleasantly surprised to find virtually none.

Some time back I did a (cheap) deep groove ball bearing to tapered roller bearing upgrade on a mini lathe and it made a really big difference, seemed like a different lathe, and that was with SKF automotive grade bearings.
